Steve Kaczmarek's The Spotlight is on Steve Kaczmarek's
Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Exam Guide.

RN: Please tell us a little about yourself.

Steve: I have been a trainer, author, and consultant since 1991, providing operating system, network management, and personal computer support. I hold training and professional certifications (MCT and MCP) from Microsoft Corporation for Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51, 4.0, and 5.0 (NT 2000), Microsoft Systems Management Server 1.2 and 2.0, and TCP/IP as well as the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification for both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT 3.51.

RN: What interested you in writing ReviewNet tests?

Steve: I had already been involved in authoring three books on the NT exams for QUE Publishing which also involved creating sample tests. As a result of that activity, I was approached by ReviewNet to assist them with the NT portion of their project. It seemed to me a natural extension of the certification process to generate skill-sampling questions for the interview process.

RN: How did you first get involved in writing technical books?

Steve: I became involved in authoring courseware and other books through my association with Productivity Point International which provides Microsoft certified and other certified technical training courses throughout the United States and Canada. Since then I have had the pleasure of additional authoring opportunities, including a new certification initiative through McMillan Publishing and a new book with Microsoft Press.

RN: Outside of working with ReviewNet, what do you feel is your biggest professional accomplishment?

Steve: I consider my best professional accomplishment was the establishment of my own independent training and consulting business and being successful with it.

RN: Tell us about your latest book.

Steve: My latest authoring project is with Microsoft Press. I am writing a book on Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 called Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 Administrator's Companion, which is part of Microsoft Press' Administrator's Companion series. This book is designed as an added value handbook for the SMS 2.0 administrator.

RN: Tell us a little about your ReviewNet test.

Steve: The NT test I created for ReviewNet is designed to assist in the hiring of IT professional by assessing the prospective employee's skill as an NT administrator. I tried to author the questions to assess practical knowledge and experience.
