GOLNER: I have been working in the IT field for 5+ years, during which the majority of my time was spent working on large Human Resources and Financials PeopleSoft implementation. I have done mostly technical work, but have gained a very detailed knowledge of standard corporate and government Human Resources practices as well as corporate financial practices. Over my career, I have worked on more than 5 full life cycle implementations and have participated in all phases of planning, analysis, design, construction, testing, implementation, and post-implementation support.
GOLNER: For the past two years, I have worked with my company to perform technical screenings of candidates. Being a small company, our company cannot afford to make hiring mistakes. More ioportantly, it is important to assess a candidate's technical knowledge fairly, and most hiring managers don't have these technical skills. When I first heard about ReviewNet, it interested me because I thought I could learn a great deal from writing tests to improve my own interviewing skills, and I liked it because I thought there would be demand for such a product.
GOLNER: I enjoyed the challenge of writing questions, and the opportunity to use my creative skills, which I don't always get to use in my project work.
GOLNER: I wrote questions concerning the PeopleSoft technical environment for versions 7.5 and earlier. PeopleSoft has a proprietary toolset, PeopleTools, which is used to develop all modifications and customizations to the baseline PeopleSoft Product (It is also used by PeopleSoft to develop their product offerings). Having expertise in this toolset is essential for any developer wanting to partake in a PeopleSoft implementation. Decisions as to whether make modifications as well as the best way to approach modifications are crucial to the successful launch of the software. In addition to PeopleTools, PeopleSoft uses the third party report-writing tool called SQR (Brio Technologies). This report-writing tool can be used for reports as well as interfaces and conversion programs. The questions cover ares in PeopleTools (building screens and record definitions), PeopleCode (Proprietary language used to code edits, validation, and on-line processing), and SQR.
GOLNER: I tried to make the tests non-syntactical and really focus on some of the problem areas I have encountered when making modifications to PeopleSoft. After going through 5 full-life cycle implementations, I have found there are many roadblocks to a successful implementation. By designing the questions from a high-level perspective, the questions should be able to screen out those candidates not having the necessary skills to be a successful team member.
